What is Resin Infusion?
Resin infusion is a composite manufacturing process where dry reinforcement fibers, such as carbon, glass, or aramid, are laid into a mold and then covered with a vacuum-tight bagging film. A vacuum is applied to evacuate air and compress the fibers. Resin is then introduced into the mold through strategically placed inlet ports, allowing it to be drawn through the fibers by the vacuum pressure. This process ensures thorough impregnation of the fibers with minimal voids and creates high-quality composite parts with excellent mechanical properties. Resin infusion is advantageous for producing large, complex, and high-performance components while minimizing resin waste and improving safety by reducing worker exposure to volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
